Terms of service

Last updated: 2 June 2026

These terms govern your use of proof. (the "service"), operated by the proof. project maintainer, an individual (the "maintainer"). There is no company. By creating an account or using the service, you accept these terms.

Beta and invite-only access

proof. is in a pre-release beta. During the beta, signup is invite-only and access is granted from a waitlist. Features may change, and the service is provided as it stands at any given time. Access during the beta is a privilege, not a guarantee of continued availability.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service for unlawful purposes or to store or share illegal content.
  • Publish content that is defamatory, that harasses or doxes another person, or that promotes hate.
  • Attempt to breach, probe, or disrupt the service except as permitted by the vulnerability-disclosure policy.
  • Resell or redistribute the service, or access it through automated means outside the documented interfaces.

The maintainer may delist a published recipe page that violates this policy. Reports about published pages are reviewed by a person; there is no automated moderation.

Your content and ownership

You own the recipes, variations, cook logs, annotations, and other content you create. The maintainer claims no ownership of it. proof. stores your library in plain markdown and lets you export it at any time as an Obsidian vault, Notion-compatible files, or a markdown zip — your data is portable and yours to keep.

You grant the maintainer only the limited licence needed to operate the service: to store, version, render, and — where you choose to publish a recipe — serve that content at a public link on your behalf. This licence ends for any piece of content when you delete it, subject to routine backup expiry.

You are responsible for what you publish. Anything you make public is published under your account.

Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity under your account. Provide an accurate email address; it is used for verification and account-related messages.

Termination

You may delete your account at any time from within the application; deletion is irreversible after a 30-day grace period (see the privacy policy). The maintainer may suspend or terminate access for a material breach of these terms, including the acceptable-use rules above. Where practical and lawful, notice will be given before terminating.

Warranty disclaimer

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement. There is no warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any data will be preserved without loss. You are responsible for keeping your own exports of content that matters to you — the export feature exists for exactly this reason.

Limitation of liability

proof. is a free beta provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the maintainer accepts no liability for any loss — including loss of data, profits, or goodwill — arising from use of the beta.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be revised. Material changes are reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [governing-law country — operator to confirm], and any dispute is subject to the courts of that country.
